Welcome

 Hi everyone, and welcome!

This space will follow my journey through a graduate course in Watershed Stewardship. For my project, I’ve chosen to focus on Cockrell Creek and the Great Wicomico River, a sub-watershed of the Chesapeake Bay located in Northumberland County, Virginia.

This area holds a special place in my heart, generations of my family have lived here, and I even spent time in Reedville during the COVID lockdown after finishing undergrad. Being so close to the water during that season of life left me with a deep appreciation for the creek, the river, and the communities that depend on them.

Through this blog, I’ll share updates on:

  • Watershed basics: history, geography, and ecology of Cockrell Creek & the Great Wicomico

  • Local challenges: water quality, shoreline erosion, and invasive species

  • Restoration and stewardship: oyster reef restoration, riparian buffers, and community advocacy

  • Field notes and reflections: photos, observations, and personal insights as I explore the watershed

My goal is not just to complete assignments, but to create something useful—for classmates, local organizations, and anyone interested in how small watersheds connect to the larger Chesapeake Bay.

Thanks for following along! I’m excited to see where this journey leads.
